The 'No (Sham)Poo Method'

Hi hi hi! After my transition from vegetarian to vegan I have been researching more natural products to introduce in to my hair/skin care routine. I have been watching many (many, many, many) YouTube videos, one thing I came across was 'The No Poo Method' yes, it sounds...odd but to put it simply it's just giving up the usual shop bought shampoo/conditioners that contain a crazy amount of God knows what chemicals.

My hair is SUUPER thick and after killing it off with bleach and blue hair dye I have been trying my hardest to bring it back to its usual self.

So, there are many different options. Lots of people swear by bicarb (shampoo) and an apple cider vinegar rinse(conditioner) but I have read a few blog posts that have warned that the bicarb can dry your hair out. As my hair is already pretty dry I decided to stay clear. I ordered a shampoo bar from Funky Soap which contains -

SODIUM COCOATE (COCONUT OIL), SODIUM CASTORATE (CASTOR OIL)

SODIUM OLIVATE (OLIVE OIL), AQUA, GLYCERINE, SODIUM RAPESEEDATE
(RAPESEED OIL), SODIUM PALMATE (CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL),
SODIUM NEEMATE (NEEM OIL), SODIUM AVOCADATE (AVOCADO OIL),
SODIUM NEEMATE (NEEM OIL), ALOE BARBADENSIS MILLER GEL (ALOE VERA),
SAPINDUS POWDER (SOAPNUT), PHYLLANTHUS EMBILICA POWDER (AMLA),
ACACIA CONCINNA POWDER (SHIKAKAI), CITRUS SINENSIS OIL (ORANGE),
ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS OIL (ROSEMARY), LAVENDULS ANGUSTIFOLIA OIL
(LAVENDER), METHA PIPERITA OIL (PEPPERMINT), GERANIOL, LIMONENE,
LINALOOL, CITRAL (Within the essential oils)

CONTAINS NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS, SUITABLE FOR VEGANS, NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS

THESE SOAPS ARE 100% NATURAL AND HANDMADE IN SMALL BATCHES.

I came across this company on eBay, there is so much to choose from on their website. I lather this up in my hands and work the product in to my scalp, giving it a sort of massage at the same time to help promote growth. The important part is making sure you rinse this out as your hair can be left pretty greasy if not rinsed properly. I then use apple cider vineger mixed with cold water to condition the hair, leaving it soft and shiny.

The main thing with this method is to be persistant. At first the hair will be overproducing oils as your old shampoo would have been stripping the hair. Expect greasy roots for the first few weeks! To combat this I just sprinkle some corn starch on the roots and brush through (like a dry shampoo). My aim at the end is to not have to use any product on my hair - washing with just water, nothing else. This will hopefully be better for my hair and less plastic, less waste! Oh, and no cost..Yay!

Each night I brush my hair through with a tangle teaser to bring the oils from my scap through to the ends to help condition them. I have been using the shampoo bar & apple cider vinegar for around 20 days now. Here is my 4 month hair growth. I clearly need a much needed trim due to split ends (boo!) but after that I am hoping my hair will be nice and healthy and will grow a lot quicker!

I've mentioned the natural deodrant which came with my The Vegan Kind subscription box and I also picked up some natural activated charcoal teeth whitening powder from eBay. It's a black powder made from charcoal and coconut which attacks the stains on your teeth. Suprisingly I've seen a difference in my teeth already. It's not the most pleasant thing and is suuuuper messy but definitely worth a try!

What are your favourite natural products? Please let me know which I should try next!
